First International Church Of The Web

Church Newsletter For May 1, 1998.

Greetings from one who loves you!

Whew! Well, a lot sure can happen in a few weeks, can't it? If you haven't visited the church website in a while, then you're in for a few surprises. To start with, the service provider for the guestbook decided to stop offering free guestbooks, so that feature has been removed. I had considered using a different provider and starting a new guestbook, but I felt that, with all the other interactive features on our site, a guestbook was rather unnecessary. So, to nutshell it, the guestbook is gone, and won't be coming back. Of course, that's subject to change - if the membership really wants a guestbook for our church I'll find us a new one. Let me know your thoughts on this.

Of course, that's just the first of many changes on our site. As many of you know, the old church chat room has been subject to several bugs almost from the very first. Well, a couple of weeks ago the room crashed right in the middle of one of our weekly fellowship chat sessions/worship services, and I finally figured that was enough of that. So, the church has a new chat room, which I think many of our members will enjoy more than the old room. For one thing, it has many more features, including the ability to link your handle to your website, to reserve a handle for your own use, and to post a graphic that will show over your handle in the "who's on" box. There are other features as well, so be sure and visit the chat room and check it out. I'm hoping that the new room will prove more popular than the old one, and more of you will use it, and join our weekly meetings.

One of the more popular features of our church web site is the church bulletin board, which is a great way for members to keep in touch with each other. Well, earlier this week the server for the bulletin board went down. It was supposed to be down only temporarily, and should have been back up by Wednesday. That didn't happen. In fact, it still wasn't back online by this morning, so I finally decided it was time to act (especially since I was getting plenty of e-mail telling me to do something about it), so I've set up a new bulletin board for our church to use. It's a bit different than the older one, but I also think it's faster, so drop by and join the discussion. You may want to play around with it for a while to get the hang of it, and you may find it especially useful to use the no-frames option.

Some of you may have also noticed the addition of a new graphic link at the botton of the page. It's a link to a wonderful Southern Gospel Music radio station that broadcasts over the internet. If you love southern gospel music as much as I do, I think you'll really enjoy tuning in to this station while surfing the web. You'll need a Real Audio player to hear the programming, but you can download that right from their site. If you're on webtv, you won't have to download anything, your unit already is equipped with Real Audio. I hope you all enjoy this new resource.

Let me take a moment to remind everyone to visit The First International Church Of The Web School Of Biblical Studies and take advantage of the Bible lessons and other resources there. If you like, you can earn your Ph.D. in Biblical Studies, or simply use the resources to help in your own ministries. If you're an ordained minister and haven't printed up and signed the Minister's Oath, you'll find it posted there, also.

Finally, I'd like to request that all members of our church keep one of our sisters in Christ, Denise, known to many of you as Purpleplum, in your prayers. Denise has been diagnosed with leukemia, and just started chemo in the past couple of weeks. I know your prayers would mean a great deal to her, and be a great comfort during this difficult time. We also know that Our Lord is the greatest Physician of all, and if He decides to cure our dear sister, then her cure will happen, and be an absolute and total cure. Please keep Denise in your prayers, as well as any other church members who are suffering from illness, loss, or other difficulties. I personally thank you for your prayers.

Well, brothers and sisters, that's going to do it for this issue of the newsletter. As always, please know that you are in my prayers at all times. My heart and all my love go out to you, my family in Christ. I love you.

Yours in Christ,
Brother Dave
